Bonnie Blue is My Stepsister: the premise

Bonnie is someone everybody has a view on: barred from two countries and most universities, a star online and not the least bit fazed. When she needs a place to stay, she picks her father's house, in the room right beside Jake's. Her dad tells Jake to be nice and take care of her.

Jake is the only character who won't go along with it. He begins to say he has never watched her videos, she interrupts him, and before long it turns into a contest of him trying to stay cool while she has fun prodding at him. The mood is cheeky and self-assured, drawn from Bonnie's public image, with the stepsibling taboo sitting just below the surface.

Worth it if: you like the idea of a creator's digital twin playing up her own public persona, with stepsibling tension and lots of teasing.

Episode 1: Bonnie arrives on the doorstep

Jake sets the scene himself: the best-known woman online, Bonnie Blue, is his stepsister, and she has just turned up at the front door. Her dad welcomes her, asks how the journey went and tells Jake she will be around for a few weeks, so he had better be nice. Bonnie asks Jake if he has watched her videos, and when he begins to say no, she tells him not to waste his breath, since everybody has.

Her dad asks Jake to take care of her. Jake then wants to know if the well-known number is real. Bonnie says it is: 1,057. And Jake, she adds, would have been the one after that. He is free to look, she tells him, because everybody else does. He answers that he is not everybody else, and she agrees, but only because he lives in the house. She leaves him with this: he is not special. Not yet.
